others. he's still at large and police say he has access to multiple weapons and assault rifles. cnn's kyung lah is joining us from los angeles where the police chief is calling it extremely worry some and scare ree. what's the latest kyung? >> reporter: certainly scary for anyone connected to the police department in southern california. this is where today's shooting spree began but all of this, wolf, began earlier this week. the murder spree began on sunday with the double killing of a newly engaged couple, monica quan and keith lawrence, quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain, the officer who represented christopher dorner in front of the police board that eventually fired him. dorner refers to quan's murder in his man guess stow. he writes, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. self-preservation is no longer important to me. i do not fear death as i died long ago on january 2nd of '09, a date a few month after dorner was fired as a police officer. the lapd fanned out, launching 40 protection details throughout southern california. >

microphone. let's work on that and then get back to her. let's go to jennifer delgado. she's in the cnn weather center in atlanta. what can you tell us? >> i can tell you a lot. we're still looking at snow coming down now for areas like amarillo, they were pounded yesterday with 19 inches of snowfall. but looking at the radar right now, right along interstate 7, you can see snow coming down. rain moving through st. louis. what we're going to see is more of that snow working in as we go throughout the afternoon. some of these locations are potentially going to pick up between 6 and 12 inches of snowfall. when you add that in with winds up to about 20, 25, of course we're going to be talking about very limited visibility. in fact, i want to point out to one bright side from yesterday. we had a lot more areas with the blizzard warnings. now notice we're just really looking at the northern part of oklahoma and that is going to be in place until 6:00 a.m. central standard time. but for kansas city as well as for areas up towards chicago and into detroit we have winter storm warnings and watc

from the cnn weather center. alison kosik in new york. and indra petersons in washington. it has become impossible to find shovels or bottled water. indra, how is it? >> a mild season so far. 15 inches below normal for snow totals this season, but we all know by this point, this atomic bomb basically, this huge low pressure system developing is expected to bring heavy snowfall here by late afternoon. currently, of course, the sun support, still generally calm, visibility is great. one thing picking up here is the wind, just in the last -- my hat flew right off, not warm enough, i need the beanie on top of it. you can see the custom tower, and you remember, two to three inches of snow per hour. that's the amount of heavy snow we're expecting as we go toward late afternoon in through the evening and even all the way in through tomorrow. keep in mind, not talking about heavy snow, but high winds, and with that chances are as we go through the afternoon, we won't be able to see the tower anymore. a quarter mile away. as soon as we can't see that we know visibility is less than a quarter mil
